Microbiology Research Paper for microbe that causes TB
Library Writing Assignment Purpose The goal of this assignment is to use the research skills acquired during the library lab. These skills consist of searching for primary peer-reviewed journal articles, gaining access to them through the SCC library website, and utilizing the information gathered from these sources to produce a brief paper about a disease resulting from a pathogen. Furthermore, students will exercise their ability to paraphrase the information obtained from the sources to create a paper that conforms to MLA’s guidelines for in-text citations and citation section. These abilities, will provide students the tools to seek out reliable information related to their field, and how to summarize that information for others as well as how to format that writing to meet scientific standards for scientific communications. Task 1. Students should select a disease caused by a pathogen that they want to research, and email me no later than October 3rd. I will email students back if the pathogen is still available (only one pathogen/disease per student). 2. Review the writing example to gain an understanding for the type and quality of a research paper to produce. Use it as a reference as needed. 3. Read and analyze the selected sources to extract key information about the pathogen and its impact on human health. a. In the paper include answers to the questions posed in the “Questions to Answer in the Paper:” section found below by paraphrasing the sources. 6. Get help when needed. Finding some background information about your pathogen or disease will be necessary. If you have microbiology questions or need help finding a review article, please ask me or consult your textbook or lecture material if your question is very general. If help is needed with medical terms, there are many medical dictionaries online to consult. 7. Follow MLA’s guidelines for in-text citations and citation section: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_ and_style_guide/mla_general_format.html 8.
