The research assignment is intended to prepare students for this assignment, and is completed in two parts. Part one: Using academic databases (JSTOR, the CUE library/NEOS websites, etc.,) find two academic articles on Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and complete a brief annotated Works Cited page that includes the following: ● The MLA citation for the source ● A possible thesis statement, included as a quotation with proper page numbers ● A brief summary of the key points of the article ● How the article is helpful in understanding the play This assignment may be completed as a bulleted list (with the exception of the MLA citation), using the example on the next page as a structuring guide. Authors should be listed in alphabetical order by last name. Page numbers for in-text citation follow the page it would appear on in an anthology: if the page range is 67-91, for example, you would cite page (72) instead of (6). Part two: On Friday, 5 April, we will have an in-class discussion (in both small groups and as a class) that will allow for more in-depth responses to the articles you read and how they are helpful in understanding the play. You can also come prepared to discuss difficulties you had in researching the material, understanding the articles, or other questions that will add to the discussion.
