Chapter 1: The Selection of a Research Approach Select a topic that you would like to study. Examples of topics include; • Protected Areas and Tourism, • Urban Tourism and Cultural Heritage, • Hospitality, tourism management and marketing, • Destination marketing and management, • Sustainable tourism, • Tourism planning and regional development, • Gastronomic Tourism, • Animation in Tourism, • New types of Tourism (Dark/ Grief Tourism, Event Tourism, Film Tourism etc.) Note how you might address each of the following components in the design of a proposed study about your selected topic. Topic? What would you like to learn about this topic? Which worldview will you bring to the study? What are some implications of this worldview for your study? Which of the three types of design will you use and why? Which strategy of inquiry will you use and why? What are some research methods that you will employ? Figure 1.1.
