They describe, give publication information for, and sometimes evaluate each work. You do not need to be planning to use all of these sources in your paper. This assignment is really just a tracking of your research. In order to build a balanced argument, you should have looked at many types of materials. For this assignment you will need 12 sources documented in MLA. BEAM Method. • • • • 3 Background Sources 4 Exhibit Sources 4 Argument Sources o Both supporting your thesis and disagreeing with your thesis 1 Method Source Outline for the Bibliography I. TWO OPENING PARAGRAPHS: 10 pts each for 20 pts. • o o You will begin the bibliography with a paragraph that provides enough background on the topic/subject that you are researching so that an educated person outside your field would be able to understand possible directions you’re taking and the annotated entries that follow. In other words, use this paragraph to help your reader understand where you are headed as you develop your line of inquiry. In the next paragraph you will summarize what is actually in your bibliography. Think of this paragraph as an accounting of the contents. You might start: This bibliography comprises ten sources. These sources cover… Tell if they are print or web, recent or old (more than 5 years). In other words, use this paragraph to help your reader get a grasp of what s/he can expect to find in the bibliography. [you may single space these paragraphs] II. Then… 12 times with 12 different sources… Bibliographic entry in MLA Annotation: The annotation will be 3 solid paragraphs 1. The first will be a summary of the source, without any comment (5 or more sentences) 2. The second is an evaluation of the source: valid? tone? style? author? location?
