Get it written →The project involves crafting a response to professional peers who may question the validity and value of a behavioral approach. The assignment should be created in the form of a handout/pamphlet outlining your defense of ABA. This should be a creative handout. In your work as a behavior analyst, you will undoubtedly encounter other professionals in your field who are not supportive of ABA. Comments like, “I don’t believe in bribing children,” “I don’t like to reinforce my kids,” and “ABA is all about giving out M&M’s to kids who should already be doing the right thing” are examples that you may hear (or have already heard). You should be prepared to defend ABA and your work as a behavior analyst with a clear, articulate and respectful response. The purpose of this assignment is to craft a response to professional peers in your field who question the validity and value of ABA. Your response must be presented in a one-page handout that gives your clear, articulate and respectful defense of ABA, using simple and user-friendly language. You may keep the handout as a general defense of ABA as an approach to change behavior, or you may focus on particular aspects of ABA that are relevant to your field (e.g., FBA, the purpose of discrete trial training as a method for skill building). Be creative in the presentation of the project (e.g., pamphlet for parents, list of myths and facts about ABA, like a handout you could see at a doctors office – ‘does your handout stand out enough if it were among other handouts’). Provide citations of research and seminal papers where necessary to support your argument. Try to use references outside of the class required readings. You can use publisher, powerpoint, or word art for creativeness. The handout must be one full page. References may be included on a second page.
