To broaden your awareness and understanding of current maritime industry issues, four (4) abstracts of current industry articles are required. For each abstract, choose an article from a current or recent (within the past 6 months) maritime industry periodical on a topic of interest to you. Read the article and summarize it Make a copy of the article (online link accepted) and submit both the article and your abstract. Each abstract should be approximately 200 words in length with an additional 100 word opinion paragraph.
General Rules for an Abstract-
1. The function of an abstract is to describe, not to evaluate or defend, the article.
However, you will submit your opinion/comments about the article below your abstract. Your opinion/comments about the article should be clearly labeled as your opinion/comments.
The abstract should begin with a brief but precise statement of the problem or issue, followed by the major findings, and any conclusions reached.
The abstract should contain the most important key words referring to method and content: these facilitate access to the abstract by computer search and enable a reader to decide whether to read the entire dissertation.
