Summative Rant

Your task: Write a rant about something you feel passionate about (positive or negative.)Remember, a rant is about something that bothers you and you would like to see changed in the world. 

It clearly communicates your opinion, what should be done, and tries to convince others to see things your way. It is a persuasive writing piece in five paragraphs.

Step 1: Refer to your answers to the questions asked in that assignment. They can help you identify a topic for your rant. Then complete a Mind Map of your topic. (Mind Map graphic can be found on page 9 of this lesson)

a) Write your topic in the middle of the page.

b) List as many ideas as you can about your topic.

Step 2: Plan your rant using the Rant Outline 

Plan to use at least TWO effective devices in your rant (e.g. Ethos, Pathos, Logos).  

Be sure to identify your points as either Ethos, Pathos, or Logos. 

In addition, include at least one researched piece of evidence in your rant (detail, statistics, quotation). Keep in mind, your researched information provides credibility to your position, so choose  researched support wisely. 

Be sure to properly cite your source(s).  See Lesson 6 for assistance with in-text citations and creating Works Cited entries. See lessons 4 and 5 for assistance with determining the reliability of your sources.  Need help getting started? Check out this resource.

Step 3:  Write 5 paragraphs for the rant.  Be sure to incororporate persuasive words and phrases into your writing (see pg.1 of this lesson).

Step 4:Submit your Mind Map, Rant Outline – with your points identified as either Ethos, Pathos or Logos,  and Good Copy of your rant for evaluation. See evaluation rubric on page 11 of this lesson.
