Capstone Integrative Project The Capstone Integrative Project serves as a culminating academic experience for generalist year students that allows demonstration of knowledge, skills, and competencies in social work practice. The Capstone Integrative Project integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application and will include the following components: Research Component Students will conduct research on a specific topic relevant to their practicum, which includes literature reviews, qualitative or quantitative research, case studies, or policy analysis. This research is aimed at addressing a gap in the field, proposing new models or frameworks, or evaluating existing practices. Practical Application The Capstone Integrative Project requires students to apply their research or theoretical knowledge to the practicum site setting. Students are required to design and implement a program, intervention, or initiative that addresses a specific social issue or need at the practicum site. Integration of Social Work Principles Students are expected to integrate core social work principles, the Afrocentric Perspective, ethics, and values into their project, demonstrating how these foundational aspects guide and inform their work. Professional Development and Reflection This project will serve as a means for students to develop and refine their professional skills, such as leadership, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking, which are essential for effective social work practice. Additionally, students will analyze their learning process, discuss the challenges they faced, and reflect on their growth and development as emerging social work professionals. Presentation Each student will present their Capstone project (30-minute presentation allowing 10 minutes for questions). This presentation is an opportunity to showcase the work, findings, and contributions to the field. The presentation will be a professional poster or video presentation that documents the research, methodology, findings, and the implications of the students work for social work practice.
