Get it written →ASSESSMENT 33465B05 SCENARIO Anthony Nguyen has witnessed one of his neighbours being attacked. He has nightmares and can’t stop thinking about what he saw. He started to drink regularly to forget about the event. He has had arguments with his neighbour in the past about loud music late at night and cars pulling up at all hours of the day. He suspects that the neighbour is a drug dealer and, during one of the arguments, he was threatened to mind his own business or be prepared to face the consequences. Anthony has been withdrawing since the incident with the neighbours. He has developed anxiety and wants to discuss with you an incident that he suspects was a panic attack. He has been having racing thoughts and palpitations. He worries he has become paranoid whenever he hears cars pulling up in the drive. He has one close friend who has encouraged him to see his GP. He has not taken any legal action or spoken to anyone else but he now acknowledges this is affecting his health. At the end of the last session (intake counselling), he asks if you will call the police for him. TASK Throughout the role play, make sure that you: • Are taking into account the key principles of person centred approach. • Make your client feel safe, don’t judge him and don’t give him advice. • Observe and take into account your client’s body language and respond accordingly. You need to bring the counselling sessions to an end. In your role play, make sure that you have covered the following tasks: 1. Enable your client to identify progress and non-progress. 2. Summarise the nature and impact of earlier issues. 3. Used boundaries to assist the ending process. 4. Help the client identify when the counselling process is ending. 5. Support the client’s independence during the ending process. 6. Plan a structured and contracted ending of the counselling process appropriately. 7. Inform the client of opportunities for further support. 8. Identify unresolved issues and further work if appropriate. 9. Use the following specialised communication skills: Challenging/confronting. o Reframing. o Focussing.
