This week, you will provide a general outline of a program you proposed in the Week 4 Discussion. Use the learning resources and the feedback you received in the discussion to develop your outline, refining and revising your program concept.
Before beginning, remember the distinction between problem (general) and need (specific target for change).
Provide a succinct description of the program that you would like to develop to alleviate the need.
Use list format to provide the information using brief phrases or sentences (no paragraphs!)

Why is the program needed or important?
Who would be reliable sources of information to consult regarding the need to be addressed or strategies for addressing it? Consider possible recipients, those affected by the need, and/or those who would sponsor the program or provide resources for it. Specific individuals might include the clinic or facility administrator, and general categories might include individuals from the same demographic groups, such as veterans, caregivers, or family members; clinic staff who serve the same type of clients as those who would be in the program; and personnel such as teachers or law enforcement officers.
What two methods would you use to obtain input about the need or implementation of the program? Choose the most appropriate data collection methods for your project from the information you studied in Chapter 11: Methods of Acquiring Research Data, in Yegidis, Weinbach, and Myers (2020) in Research I).

Why presenting a proposal in this way is important: This is a lot of information to provide on 1-2 pages, but make every effort to provide sufficient detail in a succinct manner. Some funding organizations require program proposals to be limited to one page; exceeding the one-page limit could disqualify it for funding.

Oftentimes, social workers must justify the development of a new program to stakeholders through a formal needs assessment that generates scientific data about needs and gaps in the agency or community. They can use existing data from their agency, practice, or community setting to assess whether clients are receiving the help they need. They can also gather information from their clients through interviews, surveys, focus groups, and more.
In this week’s Discussion, you informally observed a problem in your agency or community setting and critically thought about an appropriate program to address the problem. Now, in the Assignment, you consider how to support the need for your proposed program more scientifically.

Submit a 1- to 2-page paper expanding on and justifying the potential program you identified in this week’s Discussion. Include:
A brief description of the program to be developed
Criteria for inclusion in the program (which clients and why)
Justification for the proposed program. What two best methods would you use to gather credible information to support the need for your program (e.g., interview, surveys, focus groups, etc.). Why? Be sure to state from whom you would gather the information.
Use the Learning Resources and peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles to support your paper. Make sure to include appropriate APA citations and a reference list.
