Topic: United Nation’s The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future (UN, 2015). Central to this agenda are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership (UN, 2017). Member states and companies across the globe recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. These 17 goals are intertwined, and others could be standalone, however, pursuance of one may lead to others. However, the central themes that run through the SDGs can be categorized into what is often referred to as the three pillars of sustainable development – social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Overview of the assignment
- Research into all the SDGs and pick an area(s) of interest for your project work.
- Select a multinational company that operates in the United States of America (USA) and discuss how the company can implement SDGs policies into their business policies, strategies, and projects.
- You can either focus on (1) a specific theme (social, economic, environmental) or a combination of the themes or (2) a single goal from the 17 goals or a combination of related goals from the 17 goals.
- This is a semester long project and must start from week 2.
- This is an individual research paper project that should be submitted in week six (6) using PowerPoint slides and Narrated Voiceover.
- You will be guided throughout the semester in a seminar style, mostly on the first day of class.
