Hi there so this is a Critical Studies in Advertising and Consumer Culture Communications class. Students will submit a scholarly research paper on a topic of their choosing that must have some

demonstrated connection to the course. A minimum of two of the course READINGS, and three

peer-reviewed journal articles or academic book chapters must be applied.

Original and creative topics are welcomed and encouraged. Students are encouraged to speak or

email me about their idea to determine if it meets the criteria.

Students will also be required to submit proof of their research process to support the

academic integrity of the work (things like screenshots of article searches or downloads

with clear time stamp, rough notes/rough drafts, etc). The paper must be entirely the work

of the student who submits it (no human or AI can help you generate the paper in whole or in

part. That is considered plagiarism and will result in a grade of zero and the Associate Dean’s

office will be notified to determine further penalties).

Format:

 Scholarly research essay with an introduction including a clear thesis statement that

presents an argument (generally you should avoid using “I” and should use language

appropriate to a scholarly paper.

Supporting paragraphs where scholarly evidence will be used to ‘prove’ your argument.

Remember that you must provide clear citations within the essay itself when referencing

information you have found in your sources.

 A clear conclusion that makes obvious the paper’s key points (and does not simply repeat

the introduction).

 A works cited page. You include only the sources you have actually used in your paper in

your works cited. Web sources and visuals should also be included. Citations must be

properly formatted in a recognized style (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc).

 You can include visuals with captions in the paper (or in an appendix in the back) but

remember the length requirements covers text only. Remember to properly cite the visual

material that you include
