It’s crucial to distinguish between the performance of divisions and that of managers within this framework. Performance measurement involves managing based on performance, which is derived from the organizational mission and strategic planning. Evaluating organizational sub-units, like divisions or departments, combines both objective and subjective assessments. This approach proves effective in ensuring the successful implementation of an organization’s strategy by monitoring a division’s efficiency in achieving predetermined goals or meeting stakeholder expectations. Measures of divisional performance encompass a range of information, including both financial and non-financial aspects. Two commonly used measures of divisional performance are return on investment (ROI) and residual income (RI).
