Describe the challenges you may have in working with the diversity represented in your agency.
Explain how your strengths may help address the needs of the diverse populations in your agency.
There can be many different challenges that I may have while working with the diversity represented in my agency. “The differences may be slight or substantial, the impact small or profound, but it is important as a person, a professional, and a citizen to cultivate cultural competence” (Sweitzer, H. F., & King, M. A. 2023). I see many clients and colleagues who have cultural profiles that are different from my own. A challenge I may stumble upon is communication barriers and values/beliefs. Communication is a common challenge among people of the same culture, so it is even more likely to face these challenges when working with diverse clients. I must be cautious in communicating with clients and colleagues to ensure optimal conveyance of information. Values and beliefs are another challenge I may run into. Sometimes, what I think is best may not always be the best option for the client due to their cultural background. For example, they may implement family roles and see the father of the family as the leader. I must consider and respect this and ensure I see their family from the same lens.
My strengths may help me address the needs of the diverse populations in my agency. I am very open-minded and an excellent listener. These strengths assist me in being aware, considerate, and respectful of diverse populations. Being open-minded steers me away from stereotypes and biases that result in unfair treatment of the diverse population. My active listening skills assist me by allowing me to listen well and gather helpful information to avoid misinterpretations and communication barriers. I can also use these skills to observe the client’s values and beliefs and value their input on their unique situation.

Communication issues such as a client that doesn’t speak English I would have to do a translation on my phone if none of my Colleagues are available to be able to help the client. Or a client who doesn’t understand the application at all. I would have to assist that client with their application.
- can be somewhat common on diverse teams, and for a wide variety of reasons. There may be language barriers, different communication styles or preferences, or people with hearing loss on your team. It’s important to address these challenges before they become problematic.(Gollnick & Chin, 2005). We also said that one key component of cultural competence is understanding your own culture.

Me being positive while working with the client regardless of the diverse population, I will always respect each client, and always make sure I attend to their needs Rather their Spanish Haitian Creole I will do everything in my power to assist those clients if I have to get assist from one of my colleagues to help if I don’t understand their language or I can use my phone.
While acknowledging the difficulties that clients experience, the Strengths Perspective never limits people to their traumas, problems, obstacles, illness, or adversity; rather, .it addresses them as challenges, opportunity, and motivators for change.
