Brief introduction: The necessary background and context for the reflection, and a clear thesis statement. 2. Analyze: How the film or parts of the film relates to a theory or reading in our course? How do different parts of the film speak to themes we’ve explored in class? AI DISCLAIMER: No generative AI use and AI-assisted editing tool use allowed for this project. This should make up the largest portion of the reflection. 3. Articulate: Reflect on your interpretation of the film. Articulate what you’ve learned and how your thinking has changed. In this section, you should pull together different themes from your analysis into a main idea that connects to your thesis. 4. Conclusion: Restate your thesis and summarize your points. 5. Bibliography: APA/MLA/Chicago are all fine. Choose one and be consistent. You need to include page numbers when directly paraphrasing or using quotes (even APA). REQUIREMENTS • • • • • • • 550-750 words (+/- 50 words). Bibliography excluded from word count. No title page needed, but name and date should be listed on first page. 12pt font, Times New Roman, Calibri, or Open Sans. Minimum of one course reading, maximum of two. No outside readings. In-text citations or footnotes, with references at the end (APA, Chicago, or MLA). Do not use, engage with, or cite lectures and PPT. Submit as a Word doc or PDF to Avenue. TIPS & SUGGESTIONS • • • • • • • Tip: Attend class and tutorials. Tip: Create an outline and clear structure before writing your reflection. Tip: A good reflection is not a discussion of random topics or a summary of an article or the movie. Keep summaries to a minimum. Tip: Pick one theme or idea to build on instead of writing about too many topics. Tip: Unless it relates directly to your thesis or a theory, avoid writing about why you liked or disliked the movie. Tip: Reflections are less formal than an essay, but still require the use of evidence and argumentation, and follow a similar structure. “How to write a film analysis.” AI DISCLAIMER: No generative AI use and AI-assisted editing tool use allowed for this project.
