HMGT 495 Strategic Planning and Leadership in Healthcare
ORIGINAL POST Good evening class! I’m still trying to navigate LinkedIn, even though I have had an account for some time. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for several groups to accept my request to join: Healthcare-IT/ EHR/ HIS, Telemedicine & E-Health , The Medical Service Corps (MSC) Network , Women in Healthcare Management – Boston , and Healthcare Supply Chain Association (HSCA) . I chose to join these groups for no specific reason, rather to gain knowledge across the spectrum of healthcare. Telemedicine for healthcare: Capabilities, features, barriers, and applications The article discusses telemedicine’s capabilities, features, limits, and healthcare uses. Hospital visits are expensive and challenging, especially in isolated areas and during COVID-19. Telemedicine alters healthcare due to COVID-19 (Haleem et al., 2021). Telemedicine reduces hospital visits, especially in remote areas with high transit costs. Telemedicine seamlessly incorporates video conferencing and other virtual technology for remote consultations, fast medical professional access, and reduced exposure risks. This breakthrough technology improves hospital and clinic workflows, saving patients and providers time and money. The study highlights that telemedicine can help patients and healthcare systems manage patient monitoring and recovery post-discharge. The study discovered infrastructure, security, and regulatory barriers to telemedicine. Telemedicine enhances urban and rural healthcare accessibility, clinical processes, and patient outcomes despite these challenges. Telemedicine reduces patient and provider travel costs and enhances hospital processes. Telemedicine aids post-discharge monitoring and recovery. Telemedicine enhances accessibility, affordability, and quality, the report says. Telemedicine’s 17 uses impact healthcare since remote consultations, chronic health management, and medication compliance are available via telemedicine. EHRs and tele-wearables boost patient-centered treatment, states the study (Haleem et al., 2021). Real-time vital signs, activity, and other information via telewearable sensors and monitors assist patients manage health. This constant stream of information helps people track their growth and spot health issues early for prevention and treatment. Doctors and patients can view medical histories, treatment plans, and diagnostic results on EHRs. EHRs improve patient -clinician collaboration, openness, and decision-making by making health records available via web-enabled devices. This integrated healthcare strategy encourages health talks and proactive thinking. Tele -wearables and EHRs work well together to improve data collection and management, care coordination and continuity across healthcare facilities, health outcomes, and patient happiness. The paper says AI, wearables, and VR will improve remote healthcare. Telemedicine offers excellent potential, but the report notes infrastructure concerns and the necessity for safe equipment and software. Telemedicine will improve healthcare access, efficiency, and outcomes. Reference Haleem, A., Javaid, M., Singh, R. P., & Suman, R. (2021). I am also new with linked in so this assignment helped me navigate the w ebsite and understand what it is all about. I joined a few groups as well that still need to accept my request. I was onlt able to get into one Healthcare Administration group. I love your Linked in profile and background picture! Your article is interesting to read. I like that you chose an article on telemedicine’s features and capabilities. Telemedicine is used more and more everyday do this is relevant to today’s healthcare. I did not know that telemedicine had 17 uses! What is one personal experience you have had with telemedicine? I am hoping to become a healthcare administrator so i chose to read and post an article on the future of healthcare administration. One aspect of the article was interesting was how the Affordable Care Act will continue to extend medical coverage to millions of people. This could make a healthcare administrators job much more tedious and difficult (The Future of Healthcare Administration, n.d.). Amazing work, Ashley The Future of Healthcare Administration. (n.d.). Summary: Korea developed a revolutionary medical waste treatment system with the means of producing 99.9999 percent sterilization. This technology and process is conducted in-house lessening the chances of infection from improper disposal of medical waste. The process includes breaking down waste into small pieces and utilizing high-temperature and high-pressure steam to get to the core of the waste to attain sterilization. Another benefit of using high temperature and high pressure to treat medical waste in-house is that it could notably decrease the costs associated with contracting with a company specializing in medical waste disposal. The costs associated with medical waste management depend mostly on 3 important factors including volume and frequency, location, and waste type (Breaking down costs: 2023). This new process shows the potential to increase the efficiency of waste disposal and decrease the costs and negative effects of regular waste management systems. An online platform was used to complete a survey that was distributed to patients’ mobile numbers. Of the answered surveys, the data was consolidated showing 368 responses overall (Baksh & Carvalho, 2024). With the hotline call wait time, 49% of patients’ questions were answered within 10 minutes and 18% of patients waited 30 minutes or more; 71% of the patients reported a ‘very good’ experience overall (Baksh & Carvalho, 2024). “Ninety-seven percent of participants felt listened to and were offered support and 91% felt that their reason for calling was adequately addressed.” In conclusion, this study offers concrete evidence supporting the use of a hotline for oncology patients. Also, the large majority of the patients were satisfied with the hotline service (Baksh & Carvalho, 2024). The hotline services demonstrated positive accessibility to nursing care and support services. Overall, the patients felt that they had enhanced care giving them an experience that made them feel listened to. Baksh, F., & Carvalho, F. (2024).
