One properly formatted email (You can draft the email in Outlook and then save it as a PDF), no more than 1-2 paragraphs, with standard font and margins choose a company and retrieve their most recent 10-K from the SEC. You can access those reports at SEC.gov using the EDGARsearch tool.
Carefully review the 10-K. While you will not read all of it, you should choose at least 3 tables or other data sets which you will use in your summary. Items and areas such as “Selected Financial Data” and “Financial Statements and Supplementary Data” are good areas to investigate.
Then, compose a concise (roughly 2-paragraph) email where you report your findings from reviewing the report and summarize the 3 (or more) data sets you have chosen.
The audience for this email is your manager, who has requested that you review the report and send them a brief summary of the company, their financial picture, and their outlook.
Your email should contain the standard elements of business correspondence, so you have limited space in which to offer your summary. Remember that you are taking pieces of a larger report and condensing them in your summary.
