BEHS 453 Proposal Domestic Violence Awareness Campign
- First, your proposal should identify the community you are targeting. One way to find a community is to use information gathered from the US Census in the American Community Survey (ACS). The Census is only intended to help you find demographic information about a specific community – it won’t necessarily provide you with statistics on domestic violence – but you can use this information to justify the need for a domestic violence awareness project. Consider the social factors that put people at greater risk for domestic violence. This may help you to pinpoint your community of interest. Another helpful resource is the World Population Review which identifies domestic violence rates by state.
- Once you identify a community, identify the type of domestic violence (e.g. elder abuse, bullying, child abuse, stalking, etc.) you will address in your project. For example, if your community is the aging veteran population (between the ages of 65 to 75) in the East Coast who live in a nursing home, the type of domestic violence you might be interested in is elderly abuse with a specialization in financial abuse.
- Once you complete Step 1 and Step 2, you will identify a specific activity, event, or “deliverable” (brochure, pamphlet, handbook, poster, presentation, writing and performing a song using online media, etc.) that will promote awareness of domestic violence and advocate for its victims. Be creative! You will be creating this so make sure it is a feasible endeavor. For example, if your community is the female adolescent group (between the ages of 16 to 19) in NYC school system, the type of domestic violence you might be interested in is child abuse and a specific activity can be creating a Facebook page that promotes awareness, resources, and advocacy.
- Part 2- Annotated bibliographies provide you with the opportunity to cite, summarize, and compare and contrast resources you will use in a project. You will cite each resource in APA style, write an approximately 150-word description that summarizes the central theme and scope of the resource, and compare and contrast it with other resources. For more information on annotated bibliographies, consult UMGC’s How to Write an Annotated Bibliography. For this project, you are to identify at least 10 original sources of research from scholarly sources. At least 3-4 of your sources must have been published within the past 3 years. One annotated bibliography for each group is required..Depending on the assignment, the annotated bibliography may serve a number of purposes, including but not limited to reviewing the literature on a particular subject, illustrating the quality of research you have done, providing examples of the types of resources available, describing other items on a topic that may be of interest to the reader, and/or exploring the subject for further research.Annotated Bibliography, specifically the following critical elements must be addressed:
- • Summarize the central theme of the resource.
• Include a paragraph in which you do the following:
o Evaluate the author’s authority or background.
o Explain how this resource will work in conjunction with other cited works to illuminate the topic of interest.
