15- to 20-minute presentation on the topic of death and dying slide show
Students will make a minute presentation to the class on an individual or family
developmental issue with a focus on one cultural population. The first week of class, each
student will e-mail their professor with their requested topic and week for presenting. In
order to secure a week students will need to include: 1). The week they want to present,
2). The culture, 3). The developmental issue. The week selected should match the topic
suggested. In other words, if a student wants to look at grief among Buddhists, they
should select the week on death and dying. Additional examples include, but are not
limited to adoption, incest, divorce, or the onset of menopause. In terms of cultural
population, the group can present on the selected topic as it is experienced within an
ethnic group, gender, religious community, LGBTQIA+ community, racial groups,
socioeconomic status group, or for persons with a particular category of disability.
The presentation should be based on at least two peer-reviewed journal articles that were
published in the last 10 years. Presentations should include intragroup variations; in other
words, be careful not to overgeneralize or gloss over intragroup diversity. Presentations
will also include two different developmental theories being applied to both the
developmental issue and culture. A PowerPoint or something similar is required and
should be posted to the course wall prior to your presentation. Grading for the
presentation will be based on both content of information provided as well as ability to
engage the attention of the class.
