KIN 274 Question
In paragraph form below, discuss how what you’ve learned in this course can be applied to your daily life. Use peer-reviewed research and Biblical references to describe ideal habits related to movement, time spent sitting or being sedentary, as well as injury prevention. Answer example1. What I have learned in this course is that I learned the right ways on what to do and how to do exercises without getting hurt. I learned that having the back straight and using mostly the legs to lift things helps a lot because if you use the back then there’s most likely a chance that it will get pulled out and won’t be able to do anything for weeks. This has really helped with my daily life on how to do everything correctly, with also learning posture and sitting right. 2. I have learned a lot about Movement Anatomy that I can apply to my daily everyday life. One of the things that I learned was about dealing with Injury Prevention by creating Exercise programs that would help prevent injuries to body parts such as the ACL but also to improve skills such as vertical jumping and running. I learned in Reflection #2 that Women’s Soccer Players are more prone to receiving an ACL injury compared to any other type of Athlete and Women, in general, are more likely to receive an ACL injury compared to Men (Voskanian, 2013). The most common type of ACL injury among both men and women is non-contact injury, as 70% of reported ACL injuries are noncontact related and the other 30% were reported as contact-related (Voskanian, 2013). One of the activities during Reflection #2 was to build an Exercise program for Girl Soccer players to help prevent ACL injuries and I thought of certain exercises that would help strengthen the ACL for girl soccer players. I needed to create exercises that help develop skills that are used on the soccer field such as jumping, running, and going from running to suddenly stopping, and kicking. In the future, I want to be a Physical Therapist and I know that I will need to create exercises for injured athletes and people of all kinds, and creating an exercise program will help me develop this skill as a Physical Therapist. I also learned that living a more sedentary lifestyle is nit the best way to live. As a college student, it is hard to not live a somewhat sedentary lifestyle as we have classes that are through Zoom, all of our homework is online, and the chapel is online as well. I am writing this assignment while being sedentary at this moment. There are many health risks to living a more sedentary lifestyle such as increasing the risk of receiving chronic diseases such as Type-2 diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, and other chronic cancers (Dunstan et.al, 2012). As a result of this, I noticed some of my sedentary habits as well as some of my other peers which is why I am going to start heading to the gym for about an hour 3 times a week and participate in more intramural sports on campus to keep my body active. I will also reduce the amount I sit while doing homework by taking 5-minute standing breaks or doing a small portion of my homework while standing so I reduce the time I am sedentary and increase the amount of time being active and standing. Along this journey, I also learned about how our body relates to the bible. In Genesis 1:27 God said “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and overall the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” God created our body in his image to rule over the sea, the air, and the land and made our bodies to be able to accomplish those things and be able to survive with the resources he gave us in the environment. Now we have created technology to help us make our lives easier and this made the sedentary world that we live in today and it is great, now we don’t have to perform calculations as calculators exist, now we don’t have to hunt for food now we can go to the local store and buy it by the pound, and we don’t have to travel on foot anymore as now we have cars and other forms of transportation. God intended for us to evolve and be more advanced than we were back when he created us but evolving also led society to stray away from the love of God and his message. Many believe living a sedentary lifestyle is a sin and it is not what God intended but that is false, God does not firmly say “You shall not sit down and do work for 8 hours and go home to food that you did not hunt for”, God loves his children no matter what even if you choose to believe and love him at your last breath. God would not hate society for living a sedentary lifestyle but straying away from God’s love and message will make him upset, the body God created for us should be taken cared of better as it is the body he created for us as it is in his image. I believe as long as we take care of our bodies by exercising, eating well, understanding how the body works, and worshipping and loving our Lord, he will be happy with us and he will remain connected with us. That is what I learned about the bible related to our body, I did not understand how the bible related to the body but now I do and I believe this will help me understand more concepts in the future as I continue my education but most importantly, add faith to my profession as faith and God’s love leads to a happier life.
