Write an analysis of the essay “Old Faithful” by David Sedaris (29-35) in which you show, by analyzing various aspects of the writing in the essay, how Sedaris has been able to fulfill his purpose in writing the essay.

One of the things you will need to do is to come to some conclusion about what the purpose or main point of Sedaris’s essay is. Your analysis can then encompass any writing techniques of your choice. You can look at how he achieves humor and how that contributes to his overall purpose; you can look at the organizational structure of the essay; you can examine how dialogue contributes to the effect of the essay; you can look at Sedaris’s use of detail and how that affects the reader’s experience; you can even do an analysis of Sedaris’s sentence structure, and the variety and maturity of his sentences. You may want to review the rubric for writing that I gave you to see ideas of the elements of writing that you can examine in this paper.
