Get it written →Students will need to use their working knowledge of plot and rhetorical situations as they determine the storyline for their play. Some groups may write something completely original, while others may choose to use and remix one of the group member’s narrative submission or create material based on the group poetry collection.
Students have free reign with content as long as the play 1.) doesn’t include anything lewd or pornographic, 2.) doesn’t purposefully seek to offend or exclude others based on gender, ethnic background, sexuality, intelligence etc., or 3.) doesn’t portray graphic violence and/or physical, emotional, or mental abuse, or use/misuse of illegal substances. (Note: Additional content may be prohibited; if it’s questionable, ask the instructor. Minor foul language is acceptable if used sparingly and to add to the “realness” of the show.)
In order to best meet the guidelines, the play/film should…
have at least one protagonist and a clearly identified conflict (which may be internal or external)
include plot elements like rising action, climax, and resolution
- have an antagonist
- include needed exposition in the dialogue or delivered from a narrator, who would be a separate role from the protagonist
- include action and blocking in the draft of the script that the actors plan to follow
- should note the player(s), writer(s), and director(s) at the end; a simple introduction is fine, or if doing a film, a credit roll will work
- be presented as a recorded video posted on YouTube
- be rehearsed at least twice before the final is presented
