Profit-driven pharmaceutical corporations may try to sway regulatory decisions to shorten safety requirements or speed up the approval process for their products (Petkovic et al., 2020). Public health may be jeopardized because corporate interests are put ahead of patient safety in this conflict of interest. Similarly, healthcare providers could encounter conflicts of interest when participating in policy discussions concerning reimbursement rates or healthcare delivery models. This is because the decisions they make could have an immediate influence on their financial interests. This could result in prejudiced recommendations. An additional instance is a dynamic between legislators and advocacy organizations. Lobbying groups representing different healthcare industries, including insurance providers or producers of medical equipment, frequently have a significant impact on lawmakers to sway laws in their favour (Puni & Anlesinya, 2020). This influence may result in laws that put these groups’ interests ahead of the general public’s, posing a conflict between furthering the public interest and personal goals. 3 Influences on Stakeholder Engagement Several incentives may persuade stakeholders to participate in conflicting policymaking activities. Financial inducements from entrenched interest organizations, such as consultancy fees or campaign contributions, may persuade legislators to put their interests ahead of the general benefit (Petkovic et al., 2020). Furthermore, the revolving door phenomenon may confuse corporate interests and public service, leading to conflicts of interest. Conclusion Conflicts of interest jeopardize the integrity of decision-making processes in healthcare policymaking. It poses serious ethical and compliance issues.
