First Aid & Emergency Kit 

You will organize a first aid and emergency kit and present it in the PowerPoint slides.

Instructions:

I. Read Chapter 5

II. Include the following items in the assignment.  You can either include all 26 items or choose 15 items from 26 items.  Item #27 with all emergency phone numbers must be included:

1. adhesive tape (1/2-inch and  1-inch widths)

2. antibacterial soap or cleanser

3. bandages of assorted sizes

4. Antibiotic Ointment (For small cuts or minor burns)

5. blunt-tipped scissors                                      

6. cotton balls                                   

7. disposable gloves                                                

8. flashlight and extra batteries                                                                        

9. instant cold packs or plastic bags for ice cubes

10. large and small towels                                                                                              

11. liquid soap                                                                                          

12. pen and small notepad

13. roller gauze (inch and 2-inch widths)   

14. saline eye wash solution

15. safety pins

16. sewing needle

17. sterile gauze pads (2×2 and 2×4)

18. spirits of ammonia

19. SAM rolled splints (small size)

20. space blanket (Mylar)

21. sealable plastic bags

22. tongue blades

23. thermometer

24. triangular bandages for slings

25. tweezers

26. first aid book or reference cards

27. Local/State emergency telephone numbers to:

      a. Emergency Medical Systems (EMS)

      b. Rape Crisis Center

      c. Poison Control Center

      d. Battered Women’s Shelter

      e.  local police station

      f. Suicide Prevention Hotline

      g. local fire station 

      h. Gas Company

      i. Water Company

      j.  local hospital

      k. Electric Company

      l. Local Health Department

      m. Plumber

      n. Child Abuse Reporting

III. Create PowerPoint slides (No other format will be accepted). You can download free Microsoft Office Here on your computer.Links to an external site.

    a.  Slide 1: Your full name, Title, course/ Semester

    b.  Slide 2: Include a list of the items you will include in a first aid kit.

    c.  Slide 3: Include a picture of the container you will store your first aid kit.

    d. Slide 4 and on:  Take a picture of each item, label it, and explain why the specific item is important in the kit.  Be sure to include item # 27 with all emergency phone numbers.

    e. Last Slide: Provide a summary of what you learned and how the creation of this kit will help you safely work with children and families.
