About the Assignment There are many ways that a historian can understand and record a topic in history. In chapter two, you’ve learned that there are three meta-disciplines for historiography: traditionalist, revisionist, and post-revisionist. For this assignment, you will choose one of the following topics to show your understanding of these three styles. Choose one of the following three topics in history: • • • The Women’s Suffrage Movement The Holocaust Manifest Destiny Your task is to write about your chosen topic as if you were a traditionalist, revisionist, and post-revisionist historian. Step into the shoes of each of these types of historians and demonstrate how they would understand and record your topic in history. In addition, you should write an evaluation of the approaches you’ve written to highlight the limitations and strengths of each meta-discipline. See next section for specific formatting instructions. Please read the next section carefully. Formatting & Sources In a single document, write three accounts of your historical topic as if you were a traditionalist, revisionist, and post-revisionist historian. Each account should be 250-500 words long and must include at least one primary or secondary source. Your last section should evaluate each of your accounts to highlight the strengths and limitations of each meta-discipline. In total, your essay should be 1,000 to 2,000 words. See the table below. Chicago Formatting: Style & Definition For each account, you must include at least one external primary source in each of your accounts. As part of your research, you may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must cite them using CMS format as well. If you use any Study.com lessons as sources, please also cite them in CMS (including the lesson title and instructor’s name).
