Temperature analysis project
Temperature Analysis Project The objective of this project is to analyze a set of temperature data from a graph and formulate a sinusoidal regression that bests resembles the data using Microsoft PowerPoint or Prezi. Part I (5 points): Choose any chosen in the world for approval by your teacher. Create a collage slide that bests models your city and state. • • • • You must have a minimum of three images but no more than five. One of the images must be a historical landmark. Give the current population of the city assigned to you. Give three reasons why you want to visit your chosen city. Sketch a picture or write a brief paragraph of what you experience would be like when you get there. Part II (5 points): Visit the website www.weatherspark.com to get the temperature data for your chosen. You must retrieve the graphical data based on the year 201x. (x is the class period you are in. For example, if you are 4th period, then your year will be 2014.) You will have to estimate the high temperature of each month of the red wave only and display the data in a table. You will need this information to complete parts 3-9. Part III (5 points): Calculate the amplitude value of your data and interpret its value with regards to your graphical data in a complete sentence. Part IV (5 points): Calculate the vertical translation and interpret this value in a complete sentence. Part V (5 points): Calculate the period and interpret this value in a complete sentence. Use this value to compute the horizontal dilation factor. Part VI (5 points): Calculate the horizontal shift value and interpret this value in a complete sentence. Part VII (20 points): Formulate sine and cosine regression function models as functions of time. Give a reasonable mathematical argument to which regression model best Temperature Analysis Project gives the temperature data of your city. Your argument must involve the function that bests fits the majority of the data points. (50 points): PowerPoint Presentation • • • • • • • • • • Slide 1: Your name, class period/day, and date of submission Slide 2: City Collage and Population Slide 3: Reasons of visitation for the city and sketch or paragraph of what you will do there Slide 4: Graphical temperature data of your capital city Slide 5: Amplitude Calculation and Interpretation Slide 6: Period / Horizontal Dilation Factor Calculation and Interpretation Slide 7: Horizontal Translation Factor and Interpretation Slide 8: Vertical Translation Factor and Interpretation Slide 9: Sinusoidal Regression Functions and Analysis Slide 10: Bibliography of Websites Used for Images and Temperature Cited in APA format
