Sustainability Question

OBJECTIVE:

This assignment focuses on exploring and comparing how different U.S. states utilize treated municipal wastewater. By researching five states of your choice, you will create a table showcasing the various applications of treated wastewater and then analyze the similarities and differences among these states.

TASK INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Research and Data Collection:
   • Visit the EPA’s water reuse website here.
   • Select five states of your choice.
   • For each state, research how treated municipal wastewater is permitted to be used.
   • Pay special attention to applications such as Agriculture, Landscaping, Consumption by Livestock, Centralized Non-Potable Reuse, and Impoundments. Use the “See Results” tab and list at least one example for each application. You do not need to leave this site to answer this assignment. Only describe what’s listed in the table – the purpose of this is to see how water is reused differently in the different states.

1. Table Creation:
   • Create a table that lists each of the five chosen states.
   • For each state, include the acceptable reuse applications of treated wastewater. And one example for each reuse applicationb for each state. Ensure the table is clear and well-organized.
2. Analysis and Writing:
   • Write a paragraph (minimum four sentences) describing the similarities in wastewater reuse applications among your selected states.
   • Write another paragraph (minimum four sentences) focusing on the differences, such as any unique limitations or applications specific to a state.
   • Your analysis should reflect an understanding of the broader implications of these reuse strategies.
