Joshua Liew has been admitted to the intensive care unit. Prior to transfusion it is noted that he is not wearing a patient identification band. In this situation transfusion may be commenced: After checking it against the patient’s bed card and documenting this in the patient’s notes If the staff are familiar with the patient, and the pack, paperwork and prescription all match If he is a long-term patient that staff are familiar with, and checking is done against the patient’s bed card When the patient’s identity has been confirmed and appropriate identification is attached to the patient
