Module 3 Assignment: Self-Observation 3  & Journal Reflection

Use the weekly chart to record the interactions you had during Module 3. Follow the same process of completing the chart as you did in Modules 1 and 2. 

Part 1: Self Observation

• Each Self?Observation assignment, done in Weeks 1 through 3, is designed to provide you with specific content or data for Module 4 Assignment: Personal Style of Communication, which is an insightful exploration of your personal communication style. 
• Notice that each week, you’ll observe 1) the verbal language that you use along with 2) one form of non?verbal behavior; you also observe your verbal and non?verbal behavior in each of these 4 social categories: 1) family, 2) friends, 3) work or school acquaintances, and 4) strangers) each week.

Part 2: Journal Reflection

The purpose of the questions is to get you thinking about patterns in your communication, which will help you write Module 4 Assignment: Personal Style of Communication. Be sure to include specific examples from your charts, which you must incorporate in your paper.

Your Verbal Behavior

Look at your chart, focusing on your notes in the categories of family and work/school acquaintances. Compare your specific verbal behavior in these two categories.      

• What do you notice in comparing your verbal behavior in these two categories? Be specific.
• How are your words and expressions (vocabulary) different when communicating with family members and work/school acquaintances? (Include the best 3 examples from your chart to prove this.)
• What does this reveal about you as a communicator in the two categories?
• What differences in your pronunciation do you notice in the two categories? (Include the best 3 examples from your chart to prove this.)
• What does the overall verbal behavior reveal about you as a communicator?

COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:  

1. Submit your completed Module 3 Self-Observation Weekly Chart to the assignment dropbox. It must be filled out to receive credit.  
2. Submit your weekly reflection questions. Be thoughtful and detailed in your responses; include at least one (1) paragraph per question.
3. You may list your reflection questions in the same document at the end of your chart so you only have one document to upload to the dropbox.
