2a. In the first video, Professor Schweitzer and doctoral student Emma Levine raise a number of considerations about honesty and truth-telling in the professions. At one point, Professor Schweitzer says, “There are really two key ideas that we suggest for implementing some of these findings. One is to change codes of conduct. That is, when we talk about codes of conduct, and we have honesty in there, for the sake of hypocrisy, I would take that out because it’s not what we mean, and it’s not what we do.” Do you agree or disagree with this perspective? Do you think it applies to the professions generally, or is it particularly an issue for one or more professions you can think of? What might a code of ethics provision that embodies Schweizter’s advice look like?

2b.Consider the questions asked in the introduction to the second video for Unit To what extent is Professor Bernstein’s role a relevant consideration in excusing or not excusing his deceiving his wife? How does this apply in the case of professional caregivers? Broaden the scenario to consider more than just the medical profession – what other professionals might also be in a relationship with Bernstein and his wife? Do the same issues raised by the video apply to them? Why or why not?

In making your responses to at least two peers’ posts, try to look for elements of analysis that they may have missed or treated incompletely. Are there other elements or concepts from the readings that may be more relevant to the situation they describe than the ones they chose? Why or why not?
4. Watch the short video, “Integrity Test,” from the Movie Courageous. In your post to the discussion board address the following: the approach taken by Mr. Tyson is effective in showing that Javier is a person of integrity, but is it ethical? Is Mr. Tyson acting with professional integrity with his approach? Why or why not? In your answer, relate your reasoning to at least one of the conceptual views of integrity referenced in the instructor notes as well as to at least one point from the readings for Unit 6.
