single-subject experiment
In chapter 11 of the text, the following was written: “You may not have realized this, but you have been conducting single-subject experiments much of your life, although you have not been doing them with the precision and formal data collection procedures described here. We would like you to plan and carry out a single-subject experiment focusing on shaping a particular behavior using reinforcement. It might be a practical behavior, such as having your roommate clean the kitchen after using it. It might be an impractical behavior. Students sometimes get together to see how much their professor can be influenced by reinforcement. They decide in advance, for example, that they will pay closer attention and be more responsive whenever the professor moves away from the podium. A class working together can shape a variety of such behaviors, usually without the professor even picking up on what is happening.”
