Review the module resources and overview and select a popular culture example (a specific television show episode, commercial, game, movie, etc.). Analyze how technology is represented and the social message conveyed by the example. If you do refer to resources, be sure to cite the resource. Response 1 – (JM) Good morning, A television show that blew my young mind with technology was the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VI. In the segment titled “Homer Cubed” that cartoon started out with regular cell animation and ended Homer in 3-dimensional world that had rendered Homer in CGI. The reason why this comes to mind is that The Simpsons at the time were in there prime and they chose to do incredible experiment for this Halloween special. Little did I know at that time (or probably cared) was that cell animation was a dying trade. Just about every cartoon now is animated on a computer and 3-d animation was going to explode in the years to come and just get progressively better with time. For example all the Disney movies were traditionally cell animation and now every movie is the animation is done digitally. Cheers, Response 2 – (DM) Hello Everyone, Megan is a horror movie that was released this year and illustrates the potential capabilities and fears of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this movie, a doll (Megan) utilizing AI technology becomes self-aware and becomes hostile toward anyone who comes between her and her human companion (Cady). It reaches a point where Megan does anything to defend Cady, including murder. This movie portrays a very realistic fear that society currently has with AI technology. There is a chance that it will eventually reach a point where it becomes self-aware in the future. However, we shouldn’t fear too much just yet because even with the rapid progression of AI in recent years there is still no significant evidence that any of the current iterations are conscious. (Sparkes, 2023) There are rules also being put in place to help defend against this happening, The White House already has a blueprint for an AI bill of rights. While this doesn’t directly correlate to consciousness, it does lay the framework for a society in which humans have maximum control over this technology. (The White House, n.d.)
