Glendale Community College Writing Question Reflection on the Interview Process

STEP 1: Develop an interview guide that consists of 5-10 questions on a topic of your choice. Please keep in mind that you are going to practice asking someone these questions, so it is also good to have identified the person that you will interview prior to developing your guide. (For example, I might develop a different sort of interview guide and protocol if I was intending to interview a 3rd grader than I would for an adult.)

STEP 2: Interview the person you selected. As you interview, be mindful of the process. How did it feel to ask follow-up questions and go deeper? How did your participant respond to your questions? Please note that this is an experiential activity, and not one that is designed to facilitate data collection. You do not need to transcribe the interview that you do.

STEP 3: In 2 double spaced pages, please write up a reflection of the process. What was it like to interview someone? How did you feel about the quality of “data” that you got? What was inspiring? What was challenging? Could you see yourself using interview methods? Submit both your interview guide and reflective write-up.
