The Wolf, the Forest and the New Man and Strawberry and Chocolate reflect the year 1979. During the film we will see references to a particularly repressive moment in Cuba (1971-1976) which was later referred to as the “Grey Quinquenio” – five years during which artists, writers, homosexuals and religious were marginalized and censored for not following a hard line of the socialist realism. The film partly reflects the subsequent discussion of that process. It makes references to the Cold War, to the missile crisis and the situation of intellectuals during that period.
