During this simulation, I felt confident in my initial assessment of the patient. Through this simulation, I was able to ask the patient the correct questions and use the patient’s responses to critically think about the patient’s condition. The scenario is realistic and allowed me to get a life-like experience. It allowed me to practice skills that I must utilize in my day-to-day practice.
One of my weakest areas throughout nursing school and to this day has been the heart. I find it very difficult to identify all the different heart sounds while hearing all the other sounds occurring. With Mr. Granger, I noticed that there was a different heart sound, but I did not identify the correct sound. This is something that I am working on in practice daily.
This simulation helped me learn a little more about the sounds of the heart. I am not confident in assessing the heart but hopefully, with practice, I will be able to better understand and identify abnormal heart sounds. This simulation did help reinforce my ability to perform a comprehensive assessment of patients. I do not feel like I was able to practice comprehensive assessments enough during nursing school, so these simulations are helping me tremendously.
