LDR 800 GCU The Severity of Unethical Decisions Discussion Response
reply to peer post below by furthering discussion:
It is important to note that an unethical decision is simply an unethical decision. There should not be a scale on a decision being more unethical than another. However, an important stipulation to this is that decisions made unethically may have more severe consequences than others. An unethical decision will have repercussions, but some are not as drastic as others. For example, lying to a supervisor about a minor detail may not get one in very serious trouble, but lying about a financial matter or dispute can have very serious consequences. Both decisions to lie are not ethical. However, one causes more friction and damage. Things like this is why viewing ethics in a sliding scale can be dangerous. In fact, viewing ethics as a sliding scale can even be indicative of compromised morality in some cases (Ristovski, 2020). Ultimately, it should be argued that intentions and consequences do not always go hand in hand in ethical matters and conduct.
