Lastly, bespoke solutions offer a competitive advantage by offering unique features based on the firm’s needs. These features may not be present in off-the-shelf solutions. The second option for implementing health information projects includes off-the shelf solutions. In this option, firms evade software development and choose to procure a ready software solution from a software vendor. Firms choose off-the-shelf solutions based on several reasons. One of them includes cost. Organizations should choose information technologies that fit their budget (Saeed et al., 2019). In this case, healthcare managers prefer off-the-shelf solutions because they are cheaper than bespoke software solutions. This is because off-the-shelf projects are pre-built and ready to use. Secondly, off-the-shelf solutions are easy to use. The solutions are delivered as a ready-to-use package with no further changes. As a result, firms evade the customization process which may be complex. Finally, off-the-shelf solutions are palatable due to technical support. Software vendors often allow buyers to save maintenance and customer support costs since the vendor’s team offers these services without additional costs.
