I believe an employee who is acting unethically should be terminated from his or her position if the infraction is part of a zero tolerance policy. If an employee is unable to perform their work, while following the ethical code put in place by the organization, they are failing to comply with the rules and regulations in their contract and should be terminated. Regardless if the employee is the leader or the part of the janitorial staff, following the ethical standards put into place by the organization is part of policies and practices. Gan et al (2023) stated that employee unethical behavior is viewed as illegal behaviors and/or violations of the moral standards put in place by the organization or company. If an employee did not behave illegally, depending on the number or level of infractions, an employee might receive a warning, a letter in their file, or time off with no pay as a form of punishment. I am not sure how effective these actions or penalties would be, it would depend on the person and their situation and personal ethical values.
