he social problem I plan to focus on is the lack of effective communication skills and generational trauma that affects individuals in our society daily.

In the African-American community, we were taught to obey our elders and never talk back and if we did we would get punished. This is a major social issue because that way of parenting instills respect in children and establishes the parent’s authority over their children. I truly believe this behavior has manifested in our community due to the decades of trauma our ancestors and grandparents received during slavery and segregation. For example, if a person of color talked back to their owner, that was considered a form of disrespect and a challenge to the owner’s authority.
