Give an example of a breach of research integrity in a case study in business. Discuss how such a breach does not align with a Christian worldview.

Many may ask, what is a breach? A breach is failing to observe by law or agreement (ISHN, n.d.). Research integrity is much more than misconduct. Researchers should strive to improve their work quality at every opportunity. According to research, the most significant impact on research integrity is achieved through sustained improvements in day-to-day research practices. This can be done by having better record keeping, vetting experimental designs, and work rewards. 

A good example of a breach of research integrity in a case study in business would be the 7 Data Breach Case Studies Involving Human Error: Did Encryption Play a Role? by David Bisson. Despite an overall increase in security investment over the past decade, organizations are still plagued by data breaches. In defense, human error has a well-documented history of causing data breaches. Sadly, human error frequently gives attackers access to encrypted channels and sensitive information. (Venafi, n.d.).

This week’s scriptures reflect on the book of Psalms and Proverbs. Psalms biblical reflection is on what it means to dwell with God by walking in faith. In this book, David talks about speaking the truth. As we may know, truth is of the utmost importance to God. Therefore, if His words are true, God dislikes all false things. The Holy Bible speaks truth from God. Consequently, it is important not to tell people what you think but to tell the truth and refer them to God’s Holy works.  

In Proverbs, Solomon compares the beautiful lives of those who pursue God’s truth with those who live in sinful ways. He also contrasts the righteous person’s end of life with the wicked people. In other words, having a balance and scales belongs to the Lord.

Read the following Scriptures: Psalm 15:1-2, 26:11; 119:29-30; as well as Proverbs 11:1; 16:11; 20:7; 22:28. Give an example of a breach of research integrity in a case study in business. Discuss how such a breach does not align with a Christian worldview.

Research integrity is crucial in the corporate sector because it is the basis for moral judgment and responsible behavior. An example of a case study demonstrating a breach of research integrity is one where Gilead Sciences corporation hid poor clinical trial findings for a Remdesivir medication with potentially adverse effects of deaths among COVID-19 patients (Rajkumar & Sampathkumar, 2020). Such a breach profoundly contradicts the principles stressed in the cited Scriptures from a Christian point of view. The value of living with integrity, including telling the truth while conducting research and conducting business, is emphasized in Psalm 15:1-2 (New international version, 2023). Honesty, purity, and godliness are stressed in Psalm 26:11 and 119:29–30. Proverbs 11:1, 16:11, 20:7, and 22:28 stress the worth of uprightness and fairness (New international version, 2023). In addition to violating scientific integrity, hiding crucial information that might influence public health also goes against values of honesty, justice, and openness (Rajkumar & Sampathkumar, 2020). Such behaviors damage society and weaken trust, highlighting how inconsistent they are with Christian principles.
