THE ARISTOTELIAN OUTLINE
This is the basic outline you should use for both remaining speeches in class. Use complete sentences, and do not write more than what is suggested.
I. Introduction
A. Attention Getting Device (AGD) – A clever/creative way to grab the attention of your audience.
B. Significance/interest (Source cite) – What is the reason your topic is important/ why are we learning about this now? Cite a source that explains why.
C. Thesis – The point of your speech.
D. Preview – A sentence explaining what the body points of your speech will be about.
II. Body
A. Pt. 1 Claim + support –> Clearly state the claim of your body point and support this claim with a clearly cited source.
B. Pt. 2 Claim + support –> Clearly state the claim of your body point and support this claim with a clearly cited source.
C. Pt. 3 Claim + support –> Clearly state the claim of your body point and support this claim with a clearly cited source.
III. Conclusion
A. Review/ Re-state thesis – Remind the audience what your body points were about and what the thesis was.
C. Re-AGD – Leave us with something to think about and/or tie into attention gainer.
