OPERATION PERFORMED: Posterior repair with Surgisis biograft PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION: Using spinal anesthesia, the patient was prepped and draped in normal sterile fashion. Examination under anesthesia was performed revealing a posterior paravaginal defect. A Lone Star retractor was introduced. Vaginal mucosa was injected with a mixture of lidocaine, normal saline and vasopressin. An incision of the introitus was made. The incision of the vaginal mucosa was lifted with two Allis’ and vaginal mucosa was undermined. The mucosa was cut in the midline and dissected off of underlying rectocele. The pelvic fascia was reduced with a Surgisis graft. Three figure-of-eights were placed to approximate the perineal body and the vaginal mucosa was closed after FloSeal application for good hemostasis. Vagina was packed with Premarin cream. The patient was awakened and taken to the recovery room in stable condition.
