Impression Formation Processes
We form impressions and manage impressions of other people as we interact with others. The impression formation processes allow us to quickly form impressions of others, but as this chapter shows, sometimes our impressions are incorrect. By recognizing the impression formation processes and how we manage these, we can also check our impressions for accuracy to help us have a clearer perception of others.
For this assignment, you will…
Consider Impression Formation and Management (Textbook Chapter 2.5 Impression Formation Processes) and these four Impression Formation processes: attribution; first and last impressions (primacy and recency); physical and environmental factors; halo and horn effect.
Select two of the impression formation processes. Give an example that demonstrates how both of these impression formation processes influenced the impression you formed of a person. (Use a different person for each process.)
Discuss how the two impression formation processes either hindered your impression formations and stopped you from creating accurate impression of others, or helped you create an accurate impression of the person.
Write your assignment using complete sentences and paragraphs and following spelling and grammar rules. Review the assignment rubric for how the assignment will be graded and to be sure that you meet each grading criteria.
