I need to make some correction on a Journal. The question was :
Choose one observational record. Explain how you used that record to create an activity in the classroom. Was it helpful? In what way? If it wasn't helpful, what other observational record would you have used? Or would you have chosen a different activity?
Attached is the journal that I wrote. The teacher said that it was missing: How did you record these observations?
The observational record I chose for this journal is scissor skills. During an activity I observed that some students had a hard time cutting with scissors, they got frustrated or simply ripped the paper instead of cutting it. So in order to help them I create an activity in the classroom to make them feel more confident when using scissors. I decided to do a cutting and pasting activity so children could practice cutting a paper with scissors. For this activity children had to cut three different circle sizes and put one on top of the other ( from the bigger one to the smaller) to create a snowman. First, I noticed how the children hold the scissors, if they put the fingers on the holes correctly. Then I observed how they hold the paper in order to cut it. As they were cutting the paper I noticed that the major problem was how they held the paper. In fact they were not holding the paper correctly because they were more focused on how they were holding the scissors. So I guided them in how to hold the paper in order to cut better. Also, that way they could see better where they were cutting. Since they were circles, children also had to figure how to turn the paper in order to cut. I explained to them that they had to turn the paper and not their hands in order to cut the circle. At the end of the activity, all the children were able to cut the three circles and make the snowman. The activity helped them to get more confident on how to hold the scissors and the paper. Children understood that they had to turn the papel in order to cut, because when they were trying to turn their hands in order to cut the circle they saw that it was getting difficult and they were not able to cut and instead they were hurting their hands.
