Insights Into Information and Information Technology
In today's fast-paced world, information and technology have become indispensable aspects of my life, profoundly impacting my personal and professional spheres. Without information technology, information systems would not be able to function effectively, and without information systems, information technology would not be able to help an organization perform optimally (Walden University, LLC, 2021). As a business manager, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of these advancements, enhancing my effectiveness and opening up new avenues for growth.
Information and Information Technology on My Professional Life
It is no secret that smartphones have become integral to our lives, acting as our constant companion. Professionally, mobile technology has revolutionized how we work, enabling us to stay connected, manage tasks, and easily access crucial information. As a business manager, I rely heavily on mobile apps that streamline communication, project management, and collaborative tasks. Artificial intelligence can aggregate and assess vast quantities of data that are sometimes beyond human analysis capacity (Shaw, 2019). Accessing real-time data from anywhere has empowered me to make informed decisions swiftly, ensuring business operations run smoothly.
Information and Information Technology on My Personal Life
Automation has emerged as a game-changer for businesses, freeing up valuable time and resources. In my professional life, automation tools have allowed me to streamline repetitive tasks, such as data entry, report generation, and email marketing. The fragility of current AI systems stands in stark contrast to human intelligence, which is robust—capable of learning something in one context and swiftly applying it to another (Shaw, 2019). Gone are the days of physical storage and isolated workspaces. Cloud computing has revolutionized how we store, share, and access information. Personally, cloud storage has allowed me to declutter my physical space and access my files from any device, wherever I am. Professionally, cloud-based collaboration tools have transformed how teams work together, regardless of their physical location. As a business manager, leveraging cloud technology can enable seamless collaboration, enhance data security, and promote flexibility within the organization.
The abundance of data in today's digital landscape presents immense opportunities for informed decision-making. Data analytics tools have given me valuable insights into customer behavior, market trends, and business performance. By harnessing the power of data, I have made data-driven decisions, identified improvement areas, and driven innovation. The project of AI is to create machines that have a feature central to how humans see themselves, namely as feeling, thinking, and intelligent beings (Muller, 2020). As a business manager, incorporating data analytics into decision-making processes can help optimize strategies, increase customer satisfaction, and stay ahead of the competition.
Information and information technology have truly transformed the way we live and work. Hello Everyone,
When I joined my agency at the start of 2020, the agency relied on in-person interactions coupled with desktop computer usage to perform client interviews for public benefits. Three short months into 2020, Covid-19 began to peak. The agency seemed frozen. The managers sent all the case workers home and offices closed their doors. The agency had to quickly find a solution to overcome our workstyles to provide public benefits to families in need. Our Agency needed to build on its technology to manage the information systems used in office (Walden University, 2021).
After a few weeks into March of 2020, the agency set up each worker with a laptop, headset, cell phone, and hot spots to continue to work from home. This was a huge transition for many workers. Our agency had never used remote positions to process protected client data. In my position, I had to quickly learn how to use a new laptop, cell phone, headset, hotspot, and VPN protection to continue to perform in my position. Once I was finally set up, it dawned on me that we were not going to return to in-person processing and interviews any time soon. Fast forward almost four years later, we only go to the office once a week on a rotating schedule. The laptops and other hardware issued are still in use and the information tracking system we use called BEACON received several upgrades to make our remote case processing more efficient.
The agency quickly learned that we could implement new technologies for remote work to provide faster services to those in need. The hotspots for internet allowed a faster and secure connection to our computer software and made processing cases faster with less lag time. With the faster internet, my case processing speeds increased, and I was able to provide faster services to clients. The in-person agency internet was known to crash when multiple users were logged in. At home this issue vanished. With the increase in public assistance applications due to the pandemic, our remote set ups allowed the agency to hire 800 new workers across Massachusetts to assist these families affected by the pandemic. With the BEACON upgrades, our new data management system was able to pull information from other agencies automatically and update the client case files, making it easier to gather client data. Previously clients would travel to doctors, banks, schools, and employers to gather this information that we now have access to. The agency’s mobile app also allows for clients to submit data directly to their cases without having to visit an office.
This transition to remote work and using new technologies of laptops and cellphones, allowed me to stay home with my children during school breaks and save funds that would have been spent on childcare. In using the laptops and headsets at home, I was able to pick up more trouble shooting skills to address issues on my own without needed to travel to the agency to have the issue resolved. With these newly acquired skills, once I transitioned into my supervisor role in July of 2023, I was able to teach others how to troubleshoot at home more quickly than waiting on hold with IT or Information technology specialists. As a business manager, the use of new technology has allowed my position to be a place to teach others how to increase their productivity and clients served by using the resources they have available to them.
