Write a 1000-1500 word essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. What happens to the nurse when role stress or strain becomes too overwhelming? What happens to patient care? How is this related to possible ethic and legal issues? Discuss how nurses can manage or reduce role stress and role strain.
Explain two issues that lead to nurse burnout and discuss a solution for each issue.

Nurses have a lot of pressure and stress to deal with on the job, but there are things you can do to keep yourself from being overwhelmed by it.
Role strain or overload
Role strain and overload are two ways to describe the same phenomenon: being overworked. You may feel like you’re stretched too thin, or that there are so many things on your plate that you can’t keep up with them all. Either way, this kind of stress can lead to burnout—a state where someone feels exhausted from working too much or doesn’t have any energy left in their body at all.

What is burnout?
Burnout is the feeling that you can’t do the work anymore. It’s a feeling of being overwhelmed and exhausted, both physically and mentally. Burnout can happen when you have too much to do at once or if your job doesn’t match up with who you are as a person. For example, if your job requires long hours every day but isn’t something that matches your personality or interests, then it may be time for a career change!
Symptoms of burnout:

How can I care for myself when I feel overwhelmed?

Find some time to do something you enjoy and put down the phone. You can also take a walk or go for a drive, just don’t drive when you’re tired or stressed out!
Eat well and get enough sleep so that your body has the fuel it needs to function properly.
Talk to someone about your feelings—a friend, family member, professional counselor/therapist—to let them know how they might be able to help (or at least understand). This can be difficult if they’ve been through similar experiences themselves though; people rarely want others’ problems but instead want them solved immediately! If this is true then finding other ways of dealing with stressors may be helpful in helping us cope with our own problems better than others might have done before (or even after) ours came along.”
Make time for self-care.
Self-care is important for your physical and mental health, but it’s not selfish. It’s a way to take care of yourself so that you can be the best nurse possible. When we are practicing self-care and taking care of ourselves, we aren’t neglecting our responsibilities at work or making excuses for missing work.
It may seem like self-care is just about rest—but it isn’t! Some forms of “self-care” require planning or effort before they can happen (like getting up earlier). Other forms don’t require much forethought at all (like taking 10 minutes after lunch to eat some fruit). Any form helps!
Set a good example for other nurses and colleagues.
You can set a good example for others by:

Being a positive role model. A nurse who is failing to meet expectations may be setting the tone for other nurses to do the same. Even if you don’t feel confident in your work, it’s important to put on a smile and act like everything is fine because patients will see this as well.

Being a good coach for your coworkers and peers. When you’re having struggles, ask for help from others—it helps everyone stay grounded and focused on their goals!
