Week 3 Assignment (NR506NP Full Course Assignments)
Quality Healthcare: Measuring NP Performance
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to have students research the measurement tools of NP performance. Through the use of quality patient outcomes, student will l ist and discuss three different patient interventions and how they would specifically measure the outcomes and h o w these primary care interventions result in improved patient outcomes and cost savings for the practice . In addition, students will discuss how these interventions result in improved patient ratings .
Activity Learning Outcomes
Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
Employ strategies to impact the development, implementation, and consequences of holistic healthcare policies using evidence-based practice principles (CO1)
Critically analyze how healthcare systems and APRN practice are organized and influenced by ethical, legal, economic and political factors (CO2)
Demonstrate professional and personal growth concerning the advocacy role of the advanced practice nursing in fostering policy within diverse healthcare settings (CO3)
Analyze social, historical, ethical and political contexts of healthcare policies and advanced practice leadership (CO4)
Advocate for institutional, local, national and international policies that fosters person-centered healthcare and nursing practice (CO5)
Requirements:
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) was formed to ensure quality of patient care and measurement of patient outcomes with set standards.
Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) is a performance measurement tool used by millions of health insurance plans. There are 6 domains of care:
Effectiveness of Care.
Access/Availability of Care.
Experience of Care.
Utilization and Risk Adjusted Utilization.
Health Plan Descriptive Information.
Measures Collected Using Electronic Clinical Data Systems
You may access the 6 domains of care by clicking this link:
(NCQA, n.d. https://www.ncqa.org/hedis/ (Links to an external site.))
As an APN, productivity will be an important measurement for the practice to determine reimbursement and salary. Fee-for-service practices will require a set number of patients per day to maintain productivity. A capitated practice will require the APN to have a large panel of patients but also will focus on controlling costs. This can be accomplished through effective primary care that is accessible, convenient for the patients and has a method of measuring quality of care.
Write a formal paper in APA format with title page, introduction, the three required elements below, conclusion and reference page.
You are now employed as an NP in primary care. Choose one performance measure from one of the six domains of care, i.e. Adult BMI Assessment, Prenatal and Postpartum care, etc.
Develop three different patient interventions for that one performance measure and how you would specifically implement the intervention and measure the outcomes for that particular performance measure in clinical practice.
How would these primary care interventions result in improved patient outcomes and cost savings for the practice?
How can these interventions result in improved NP patient ratings?

Quality Healthcare: Measuring NP Performance
Introduction
In the field of nursing, we’re often told that there is no such thing as a perfect patient. That’s because no patient is without any health challenges. However, in the case of NP caretaking for patients with multiple chronic conditions, it’s possible to have an almost perfect care experience—if you know your metrics and use them effectively.
What is quality healthcare?
Quality healthcare is the same as high-quality healthcare, which is defined as the standard of care that is expected and required by patients. Quality healthcare can be thought of as the best care possible for all patients, including those with complex needs or who suffer from chronic conditions like diabetes or cancer. It combines both quality and safety into one unified goal—to provide optimal care for every patient based on their individual needs.
Quality Healthcare Measures:
-
Patient Experience Surveys (PES) – A tool used to measure how satisfied people are with their experience at an institution during visits or procedures. These surveys should include questions about whether they had enough time to ask questions; if their concerns were addressed; how quickly they received treatment after arriving at your facility; whether you provided them access to information related to their health condition(s). PESs also ask whether there was something wrong with any aspect(s) of your service delivery process including communication between providers/staff members, appointment scheduling etc., so this may result in identifying areas where improvements could be made through training sessions given by doctors themselves such as “how do I make myself heard when I’m upset?”
NP performance measures
While there are many different ways to measure the quality of your NPs’ care, the most common measures include:
-
Measurements that capture how well an individual NP is performing.
-
Measures that look at the total number of patients served by a particular NPI.
-
Patient-centered outcomes (PCOs) as an outcome standard. PCOs are measurable patient outcomes such as pain relief or function improvement after treatment by an NPI, based on assessment by physicians in direct patient contact with them and not through referrals from other providers or specialists outside their practice setting like hospitals or other health systems do.
The importance of quality measures
The importance of quality measures
Quality measures are used to assess the quality of healthcare and improve it. They are also used to evaluate the quality of healthcare, monitor its performance over time, and compare one health system with another.
Measuring NP Performance Is Vital to achieving these objectives because:
How NPs can use quality measures in care
Quality measures are a powerful tool for NPs to use in their own and the patients’ care. They can help improve patient outcomes, clinical practice, and the overall experience of patients being cared for by an NP.
-
Patient Outcomes: Quality measures allow for improved patient outcomes by providing information about how well individual treatments or procedures are working. This allows NPs to make changes based on this data which could include changing treatment plans or introducing new therapies if necessary (e.g., adding antibiotics).
-
Clinical Practice Improvement: By using quality measures with your patients you’ll be able to collect data about what works well for them so that you can improve your clinical skillset as well as learn new techniques from other professionals who have already done this successfully before (like myself!). It’s also important because we know that when people feel they’re getting better care they often stick around longer than they would otherwise due to their confidence in knowing there’s someone looking out for them throughout every step along their journey towards recovery!
Quality healthcare is a key component of the APN role.
Quality Healthcare is a key component of the APN role. Quality measures are important in healthcare, and NPs have access to quality measures when performing patient care activities. It’s important for NPs to use these tools as often as possible when interacting with patients, because they will help them develop a sense of what’s considered good practice and bad practice with regard to patient care delivery.
Conclusion
In conclusion, quality healthcare is an important component of the APN role. NPs can use quality measures to measure their own performance and improve care for patients. The importance of these measures cannot be overstated, as they provide a foundation for the overall quality of care in your practice.
