Introduction
I’m a generalist. That means I have a broad and deep set of skills that don’t necessarily fall neatly into one category or type of work. In fact, it’s difficult for me to even describe what my specific job title is! But that doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to be effective in almost any situation—and it doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn new things and grow as an employee or professional.

You need a broad, deep and practical set of skills.
You don’t need to be a specialist in any one field or subject area. Instead, you should be able to do all the things a typical employee at your organization would do—and then some.
The right balance between depth and breadth of skills will depend on your role in the company and what they expect from you in terms of job responsibilities at each level within that role group (e.g., junior vs senior). For example, if you are an entry-level employee who is responsible for generating leads for salespeople in sales operations teams across multiple departments throughout various locations around the country then it would make sense for them not only expect you have strong knowledge about their industry but also know how business works overall because those businesses function differently depending on location or industry sector so there would be no way around learning those things even though it may take time before fully understanding everything related specifically within each departmental area without having first worked within those departments previously during training programs/internships etcetera…
Build self-awareness and the ability to reflect on your own capabilities, qualities and goals.
The Generalist Model requires you to be aware of yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, your values and goals, as well as your personality type.
The Generalist Model also requires that you understand how people learn best (e.g., visual learners vs auditory learners).
Pay attention to all aspects of your life.
The generalist model is a framework that can help you be more effective in everything you do. It’s not just about having the right skills and mindset—it’s also about understanding how all aspects of your life connect with one another, so that they all make sense together.
So what does “all aspects” mean? Well, it includes everything from how we spend our time at work to how we spend our free time with friends and family members. It goes far beyond just “work,” because if you’re only thinking about what happens at work during the day, then chances are good that there are other parts of your life (like family) that aren’t being considered at all!
Be as open-minded as possible about feedback.
The Generalist Model is a model for learning, and it’s important to remember that being open-minded about feedback can help you improve. This means listening to the criticism and not being defensive about it. If someone says something negative about your work or ideas, don’t ignore them; instead, ask yourself why they feel that way and try to understand their perspective better so that you can adjust accordingly.
Similarly, if someone says something nice about your work or ideas at all—even if they’re critical—try not just taking their word for it but also asking questions like: “What made them think this way?” Or even more specifically: “What do I have going on right now that might be making this person feel uncomfortable?”
This type of questioning will help you understand what’s going on around yourself more clearly so that when changes need made in the future (which hopefully won’t happen often), they’ll happen faster because there won’t be much confusion over where exactly those changes should go first!
Treat others with compassion and empathy.

Don’t take things personally or make assumptions about people based on their outward appearance or actions. You can only know what someone is feeling if you ask them directly, so don’t assume anything! If you do take something personally, try not to let it bother you too much; this will help keep your emotions under control so they aren’t an issue later on down the road when dealing with other people’s issues and problems
Look for ways to grow outside of your comfort zone.
You can’t grow without taking some risks. If you’re afraid of failure or rejection, it’s going to hold you back from trying new things. And if you don’t try something new, then how will your career progress?
It’s important to remember that as a generalist, you’ll need practice with all kinds of different skills and knowledge bases in order to become an expert at anything. This means that even though there may be some things in which you’re naturally good at (or better than others), those skills won’t necessarily be enough for success in certain areas where other people are more skilled than yourself—especially if those areas involve things like salesmanship or marketing strategy. In order for someone else’s expertise (such as having spent years working as a designer) not only benefit them but also help yours grow further still by giving feedback on how each person can improve their own work productively together over time through teamwork!
