Subfields in psychology
Introduction
Psychology is a fascinating field that covers many different subject areas. There are many specialties within the field of psychology, and each one has its own unique focus. Some subfields are more common than others, and some can be more difficult to understand than others. This article will break down all of the major subfields in psychology so you can learn about them better!
Counseling psychology
Counseling psychology is the study of human behavior and mental health, with a focus on helping people overcome problems or achieve goals.
Counselors are licensed psychologists who have received additional training in counseling skills. They may work in private practice or at an agency where they provide services to individuals or families in need. Counselors can also be employed by schools or hospitals as part of their clinical staffs (see mental health counselor).
Developmental psychology
Developmental psychology is the study of how people change as they grow, from conception to death. It is a branch of psychology that focuses on how people change as they grow, from conception to death. The field can be subdivided into three main areas: social development, cognitive development and personality development
Social Development refers to our interactions with other people throughout life. This includes things like learning about ourselves and others through social interactions such as playing games or talking with friends; forming close relationships with family members and others who share similar interests (e.g., sports teams); developing self-esteem by doing well in school classes/sports competitions etc…
Cognitive Development involves understanding abstract concepts like numbers, letters or shapes by observing them on paper instead of physically interacting with objects like blocks or shapes made out of clay which would require more fine motor skills than those required by reading books because you need both hands instead of just one hand!”
Forensic psychology
Forensic psychology is the study of how people think and behave in order to apply that knowledge to legal cases. Forensic psychologists are often called upon to help police investigate crimes, but they can also be hired by defense attorneys for their clients’ protection. Forensic psychologists look at everything from eyewitness testimony to mental health records and psychological evaluations.
Forensic psychologists work with all types of criminal cases, from first-degree murder on up through lesser offenses like drug possession or robbery. They will often be called upon after someone has been arrested for a crime because there is evidence linking him or her as being involved in some way—even if it was only circumstantial evidence (e.g., fingerprints). In these cases, a forensic psychologist may analyze witness testimonies or physical evidence found at the scene where an alleged incident occurred; determine whether there were any inconsistencies between what witnesses said happened versus what actually happened; examine how well memories hold up over time; conduct polygraph tests; interview suspects directly while working alongside police officers who may have questions about them as well due presumably motive behind committing crimes based off prior history etc..
Organizational psychology
Organizational psychologists are responsible for studying how individuals behave in organizations. They also focus on how organizations function, as well as their impact on people’s behavior and motivation.
Organizational psychologists often work with business executives who want to understand the best way to motivate employees or leaders within their company. For example, if you’re working at a large corporation and want your boss to give more feedback about your performance on projects (or even just talk more), then it may be helpful for him/her to become an organizational psychologist first!
Clinical neuropsychology
Clinical neuropsychology is a subfield of psychology that focuses on the assessment, treatment and prevention of disorders related to brain function. The term “clinical” refers to its use in clinical settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers and clinics. It also refers to the application of psychological techniques for diagnosis; treatment planning; rehabilitation therapy; research studies; teaching or training others about neurological disorders and their treatments (e.g., stroke).
Clinical neuropsychologists evaluate individuals who have experienced head trauma or other injuries that may affect their thinking skills (cognitive impairment). They work with patients who experience memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia on how best they can cope with everyday life challenges as well as how best they should manage medical procedures performed by doctors like surgery because these professionals understand how important it is not just only being able to perform certain tasks but being able too do so without any problems whatsoever!
Sport and exercise psychology
Sport and exercise psychology is a field of psychology that focuses on the psychological aspects of sport and exercise. It encompasses both the scientific study of performance, as well as an applied area where psychologists work with athletes to help them achieve their goals.
As you might have guessed from its name, sport psychologists are responsible for helping athletes improve their performance in various sports. They can do this by analyzing an athlete’s strengths and weaknesses so they can develop strategies for improving those areas or helping them learn new skills if necessary. Sport psychologists also teach coaches how to use correct techniques during practices or games so their players can become better performers on the field/court/track etc..
Industrial and organizational psychology
Industrial and organizational psychology is the study of the human factors that affect people in organizations. It focuses on how individuals and groups work together, which can be done through learning, communication, technology (such as computers), decision making processes, leadership styles and more.
In this field you’ll find yourself studying employee development and training; workplace stress and conflict; management of human resources; workplace health & safety
Community psychology
Community psychology is a broad field that seeks to understand the psychological processes that underlie health and well-being. It is a relatively new discipline, growing rapidly in recent years. The community psychologist studies how people in social networks, families and communities think about themselves, interact with others and perceive their environment.
The field has many specialties: family studies; health psychology; social network analysis; school psychology…
There are many specialties within the field of psychology
Psychology is a broad field, so it’s important to understand that there are many specialties within the field of psychology. Each specialty focuses on a different aspect of psychology and can be studied at various levels depending on which area you choose.
For example, clinical psychology focuses on helping people deal with their mental health issues by focusing on treatment strategies, research methods and theories (like cognitive behavioral therapy), while social psychology focuses on how society affects our thoughts and behaviors through social interactions like media consumption or work life balance issues.
Conclusion
A good practice in psychology is to use the following format. Many journals, books, and websites include this information for their readers.
The abstract is an introduction to the paper. If you can, try including at least 2-3 sentences that introduce all of the important details in your paper for those who do not know about them. In other words, the abstract should be a brief summary of your paper. Include a short title and a short summary of what each section of the paper will discuss. Include any statistics or references (using APA style) that are needed for those who read your paper if they are not included in other sections of the paper itself. At its most simple this is what an abstract looks like:
“Our study showed that video games decreased cognitive performance by disrupting working memory processes via increased levels of task switching”.
