Write a 750-1,000-word analysis on social stratification regarding gender.Choose a social institution to describe and analyze the effect that the stratification elements of gender have on that social institution. Include the following in your analysis:
- Explain how gender impacts the social institution.
- Identify a form of gender inequality associated with the social institution and use theoretical perspectives to explain the social behaviors that perpetuate the inequality.
- Suggest measures for the social institution to implement to help alleviate the gender inequality you identified.

Introduction
The social institutions of our society are largely based on gender roles. These roles can be positive or negative, and they can change over time. In this paper I will look at how these changes have affected the way we do things in our society.
Workplace and career
Women are underrepresented in management, with women holding only 16.5% of leadership positions and 26% of senior management positions in Fortune 500 companies. This disparity has been attributed to a number of factors including:

Women tend not to apply for jobs that require them to relocate, as they may be more likely than men to relocate if they get hired (and consequently lose their jobs).

The gender gap in education has been a subject of debate for decades. In the United States, women earn on average $11,000 less than men and are less likely to pursue higher degrees or advanced degrees. In many countries, including India and Pakistan (the two countries with the largest number of abandoned girls), boys outnumber girls in primary schools by 2:1 or 3:1—but this ratio reverses after secondary school age when there are still more boys than girls enrolled at universities throughout Asia.

The consequences of gender on health are clear. Women are still more likely to be the ones to take care of the kids, while men are more likely to go out and work. In addition, women have been found to have lower rates of heart disease than men (though this may be a result of lifestyle differences). However, when it comes down to actual risk factors like smoking or drinking too much alcohol, there’s no difference between genders—men and women tend not only experience similar effects from these habits but also face similar risks later in life after years spent putting themselves through those same hardships early on.

The arts and media are two of the most prominent examples of this. In these fields, women are still underrepresented and male artists continue to dominate. Women continue to be objectified in art and their looks are used as a kind of currency for male approval or appreciation. Women also face more sexualization than men do—they’re seen as less credible when they speak about issues affecting them directly, or if their appearance is seen as threatening (e.g., an overweight woman wearing a revealing outfit).
In addition, there’s another kind of inequality at play here: judgements based on appearance alone can have negative consequences for women who choose not to conform with ideal standards (like being thin).
